BIG NAMES. SMALL SCALE. ST ALBANS WRITERS’ FESTIVAL.
8 – 10 SEPTEMBER 2017
Deep in the Hawkesbury Heartland, on the banks of the Macdonald River, the village of St Albans will spring
to life with the third annual St Albans Writers’ Festival.
The intimate literary celebration will see a bounty of the best and brightest of Australian writers gathered in
the tiny historic town (population 158) for a weekend rich with talks and ideas surrounding the theme of
‘Escape and Explore’.
The Festival precinct includes the historic St Albans Church, the Settlers Arms Inn, the School of the Arts
Hall, and marquees corralled around a huge fire and hay bales in the St Albans Reserve festival hub.
Established writers Kathryn Heyman and Melina Marchetta, new writers Melanie Joosten and Rachel
Leary, and many more Australian writers fill the lineup.
Cooking powerhouse Simmone Logue will cater the entire festival weekend, including a three-course
Dinner with the Writers. Director George Miller will introduce his Acadamy award-winning Mad Max: Fury
Road at a special screening of the film.
