Coronavirus: Tips from Dr Sandra Cabot

This week Rossco spoke with Dr Sandra Cabot for Wellness Wednesday, all about Coronavirus and how you can boost your immune system to help protect yourself from any kind of virus, not just this one.

This new virus, we don’t have immunity to it, and people need to keep their immune system strong, said Dr Cabot.

Something that I’ve been researching for a long time that keeps your immune system strong is Selenium. Research has shown that Selenium is very important to fight viruses. Interestingly, when somebody gets a bad viral infection, the virus steals their selenium, because the virus needs selenium. You might think that’s bad, we don’t want to help the virus, but the way it works is the selenium reduces the propensity of the virus to change itself.

As well as Selenium, Dr Cabot recommends good old fashioned proper hand washing and good hygiene, Vitamin C and Zinc.

The mineral Zinc is very important, particularly for older people or people who are on immunosuppressant drugs such as steroids.

You have to remember; viruses are clever, they will always change. It’s like the flu virus, it’s always mutating. The immunity you have now may not protect you next year. So what will protect you is your immune system.
