With it’s marshmallowy centre, waffle wafer outer shell and delicious chocolate coating, the iconic Polly Waffle was one of Australia’s favourite sweet treats. It has been off the shelves for 10 years and is sorely missed – but not for much longer!
A spokesperson for South Australian confectionary company Robern Menz stated “I’m very pleased to announce today that Robern Menz has reached an agreement with Nestle to acquire the trademark, the intellectual property, the very secret recipe, and the brand Polly Waffle”, in a deal finalised just prior to Christmas last year.
The first Polly Waffle bar was produced in 1947 in Melbourne by the Hoadley family and at it’s peak in the 90s there were over 10 million Polly Waffles produced annually. There has been a significant consumer demand by Australians for the Polly Waffle’s return since it was withdrawn from shelves by previous owner, Nestle, 10 years ago.
“We are excited to bring it back to the not only for the generations that love it and are demanding to bring it back but for the youngest generation that have never tried it”.
The exciting announcement came off the back of an initial announcement from company Robern Menz that they are bringing the Violet Crumble bag back! After purchasing Violet Crumble from Nestle in 2018, Robern Menz have been working hard to bring the Violet Crumble back. “A share bag of bite-size Violet Crumbles is engrained in the childhood and family memories of so many Australians. It’s been off the shelves for a decade, and will be available across Australia very soon.” said the spokesperson.
With the purchase of Violet Crumble came the joy from lots of Australians but also came the follow up question – When are you bringing back the Polly Waffle?
At this stage there is no official date for when production will begin and when we will see the Polly Waffle back on our shelves but we will just have to wait patiently with the knowledge that it is not too far away.
