The Australian and NSW governments are jointly funding the upgrade of Mulgoa Road, Penrith from Union Road to Museum Drive.
Transport for NSW is continuing work on this project to improve the traffic flow along the Mulgoa Road and Castlereagh Road corridor, including the High Street and Jane Street intersections. To progress important work, Castlereagh Road between Jane Street and Thornton Drive will be closed between:
• 10pm Friday 15 May and 7am Saturday 16 May
• 9pm Saturday 16 May and 8am Sunday 17 May
• 8pm Sunday 17 May and 5am Monday 18 May

Traffic Changes
Outside of the road closure period, between 7pm Friday 15 May and 5am Monday 18 May 2020, a contraflow will be in place with one lane open in each direction on the southbound side.
Road users are expected to experience delays on the detour route. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and use alternative routes where possible.
Electronic message signs will also be in place to direct road users through these changes.
Pedestrian and cyclist detours continue to be in place on Mulgoa Road, Castlereagh Road, High Street and Jane Street for their safety.
How will the work affect you?
During the work, every effort will be made to minimise the impact on residents and businesses by:
- using non-tonal reversing beepers on machinery
- turning off equipment and vehicles when not in use
- using lighting towers only when necessary
- directing noise generating equipment away from resident properties where possible.
The project team will use a variety of machinery to excavate the existing road and install drainage, including excavators, bogie trucks, road saws, heavy and light vehicles, compactors, lighting towers, and power and hand tools.
Please keep to speed limits and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs. For the latest traffic updates, you can call 132 701, visit livetraffic.com or download the Live Traffic NSW App.
